There are so many things to do in the Cancun area, you can afford to be selective. Plan ahead for trips a day early and go before the sun gets too hot and the crowd out in mass.

If your main goal is visit Cancun on the cheap, the best advice is to find accommodation outside the area "hotel" located in the middle of the city. There are many things to do there and many places to visit, but the hotel and restaurant prices downtown can get pretty steep.
Here is list of items you want to pack for your vacation in Cancun:
Clothing: Several pairs of comfortable shorts, t-shirts, pants dress, a summer dress, a sweater or light jacket, socks, underwear, sandals, tennis shoes, a plastic bag for clothes dirty
First Aid: analgesics, eye drops, medications and prescriptions needed, bandages, cervical pillow
Protection: sunglasses, goggles and / or contact lenses, sun visor or hat, umbrella or rain poncho
Snacks: peanuts, crackers or of potato chips, gum, candy and a bottle of water
Equipment: camera, extra film, batteries, portable hard drive CDs with headphones, favorite book
Documentation: A valid passport, driver's license and birth certificate, emergency contact information, money and travelers checks, computer printouts of the confirmation of airline tickets. (Be sure to write the name of your hotel destination within and outside the luggage and be sure to have proper locks on each piece of luggage.)
Vacationing in Cancun should not be expensive because it does not cost much at all to lounge on the beach, swim, backpack, picnic, take pictures, walk along the beaches and streets, and simply sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city and surf.
